How to Notice Your Pace in Your Body
Mar 07, 2026
Ever notice your body's pace when you first get up in the morning?
Sometimes it might be sluggish. You're reluctantly sitting up, pivoting your body, and placing your feet on the floor. Feels like work.
For me, it's more often my internal engine is running fast before my feet hit the floor. If that's you too, the mind may be full of ideas and thoughts when you first get up.
Perhaps you walk faster than needed. You're holding your breath or the pace of your breath may be accelerated. You might not even notice your breath as you rush to turn your attention... yep, to the phone or laptop.
The body can start rushing ahead before your true intentions for how you want to meet the day can catch up.
Morning Practice (2-3 minutes)
One of the benefits of a morning practice, if you can build it in, is a more intentional start to your day. When time for a full morning practice isn't available though, all is not lost. A micro-practice like this one can be helpful:
1. Notice your breath.
2. Take one slow exhale.
3. Place your feet on the floor and feel the contact/support for three steady breaths.
4. For the next minute, do just one small thing a little more slowly than you normally would (getting a glass of water, brushing your teeth, walking to the kitchen).
This makes it less likely that you'll start the day on edge, and your patience thinner, or you'll feel “behind” before the day even begins.
