Why Change Doesn't Stick
May 06, 2026
When I see social media posts or articles that imply that change can happen overnight, I cringe. If only that were so.
Real change, lasting change, generally takes time.
In the last segment of the Seasons of Stillness Spring Cohort, we focused on Returning. That is much about what mindfulness is.
Returning. Continuing to return when the mind wanders. Getting back on the horse when you stray away from daily walking or meditation. Coming back to difficult conversations in relationships of any kind.
Returning doesn't mean no change or growth. It doesn't mean groundhog day. Each time you return, you are someone new. Someone with a bit more experience. Hopefully with more awareness and wisdom too.
Change isn't hard because you lack awareness or wisdom. It is hard because consistency is difficult, and especially difficult, when you are under pressure. Returning, without support, is a real struggle.
Over the coming months, I am going to be offering a series of practical mindfulness skills workshops, with the option to add private coaching sessions, to help you bring these practices in your day-to-day life. Details coming soon. You can learn more here.
