What Season Are You In Right Now?
Aug 26, 2025
Lately I’ve been noticing how much our energy really does move in waves. You may see it in your own life—the way energy rises and falls based on eating patterns, or how it shifts after a positive interaction with a colleague, a word of encouragement from a loved one, or, on the flip side, when you feel overlooked or faced with a dilemma that calls for tough choices.
In qigong, we learn to harmonize our energy with the natural rhythms of the year. Right now, we’re in the late summer, or earth phase—a season that invites us to come back to center, find balance, and really digest not just our food, but our experiences.
That idea resonates with me—because it reminds me to pay attention to the seasons within myself. There are times when I feel like I’m in full summer, full of energy and momentum, and other times when I’m in a quieter, slower season that calls for rest and grounding. It’s easy to override those inner seasons and try to power through. But when I practice mindfulness or qigong—whether it’s just a few breaths or a short form—I’m reminded that honoring those natural rhythms makes me steadier and more effective.
It makes me wonder:
- How often do we ignore those rhythms in daily life?
- How often do we treat rest as something we’ll get to “later” instead of listening when our body asks for it now?
- What would shift if we gave ourselves permission to follow our own energy instead of trying to force it?
Of course, that’s easier said than done depending on the demands of the day. But whether you have just a few minutes or a little more time, there are practices that can help you slow down and reconnect.
In this earth season, I invite you to explore what most nourishes and supports you.
Your Turn to Reflect
As you move through this week, notice: when does your energy feel most steady? When does it dip? Even jotting down a few notes can give you insight into your own “inner seasons.”
