Murder, She Wrote… and mindfulness?

meditation meditation practice Jul 17, 2025

As some of you know, I left the practice of law to care for my mom. Well, along with that comes certain unexpected things — one of which is a steady diet of Murder, She Wrote.

You know the one — where mystery writer Jessica Fletcher, played by the late, great Angela Lansbury, shows the police, the FBI, and MI-6 how much better she is at their job than they are — all while biking around Cabot Cove or drafting her latest novel. ☺️It’s quite impressive.

But what’s really stuck with me as I re-watch is something deeper: her quiet (and well, sometimes not so quiet) confidence. Her unwavering commitment to her values, even when others doubt her. She speaks up. She follows her intuition. She doesn't back down when things get uncomfortable.

And it got me thinking… how often do we lose touch with that quiet confidence in our own lives? Especially when things feel overwhelming, uncertain, or just plain exhausting.

It’s easy to second-guess ourselves, to let the noise of the world drown out our own inner knowing. But cultivating that steady trust — in ourselves, in our values, in what matters — is a skill. One we can nurture, moment by moment.

That’s exactly what mindfulness has offered me over the years. It’s not about becoming perfectly calm (Jessica Fletcher certainly wasn’t always calm). It’s about creating enough space to hear your own voice again — and following it, even when it feels hard.

If your inner compass feels a little shaky these days, you're not alone. But you can reconnect with it. Whether through mindfulness, reflection, or simply pausing long enough to listen.

It doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes it starts with a quiet breath, a walk around the block, or just noticing what your body and mind need in this moment.

If you’d like a little extra support, I’ve created a 10-minute downloadable guided meditation called Building Trust in You. It’s a gentle invitation to pause, ground, and rebuild that quiet confidence we so often lose in the noise of daily life.

It’s just $7, and you can grab it here.

In the meantime, maybe take a moment today to check in with yourself. What would Jessica Fletcher do? (Probably trust her instincts — and keep following the clues.)
