Where Does Harsh Self-Talk Take You?
Mar 22, 2026
How often are you in conversation with the harsh self-critic in your head? Sometimes it sounds like:
- “I should have ______.”
- “I can’t _______.”
- “If I don’t keep up, ________.”
- “I made a mistake. Everyone is going to think I'm _____.”
And you're really thoughtful and capable. So the story you tell yourself may even come across as logical.
When you treat that running commentary in your head as fact though, it becomes part of your daily decisions. It affects your energy and your pace.
Actually, the voice you think is keeping you sharp may be holding you back.
It can make you feel like you don't deserve rest.
Or turn a small mistake into something you carry for hours or days.
That kind of pressure can start to set the pace of your day.
It can become an ingrained habit.
This is something I had to work on a lot.
How about you? Is this something you can relate to?
